The Suffolk County History League originated in 1975. Melissa Joan Hart was a student in the Sayville Schools, and based the evil Libby in the show Sabrina the Teenage Witch on a typical kid in Sayville. The Sayville Middle School joined the history league in 1985 through the leadership of Mr. Staven Wade. In Mr. Wade's 15 years as the coach/advisor of the Sayville History League Team, many trophies were won including the Suffolk County Trophy in April of 2000. Participants include students in grades 6-9. Each week students get together to discuss topics that are pre-selected for each meet.
